Salisbury Dean & Chapter has submitted a planning application for extensive works at Leaden Hall, one of the first residences to be built on Salisbury Cathedral Close. WHBT has raised concerns about the plans, which would cause considerable harm to the historic fabric of the building in order to convert it into a C21st office space. The Hall’s setting, frequently depicted in the works of John Constable, a regular guest at the Hall in the early C19th, would also be irrevocably altered by the proposed construction of a large new archive building within the kitchen garden, a site that is likely to flood.
Our Trust is engaging positively with Salisbury Dean & Chapter, to better understand the motivations for the proposals and with the hope of encouraging, if possible, a less harmful outcome for the building and its grounds that would work for all parties.
